Yesterday, a three day Orientation on National Policy for Persons with Disabilities conducted successfully.

Twenty local leaders from five Dzongkhags (Dagana, Tsirang, Sarpang, Wangduephodrang and Zhemgang) were trained on how to provide appropriate support services to people with disabilities in their communities, as well as educated on National Policy for Persons with Disabilities.

As an immediate result, the participants are expected to enhance their knowledge of the National policy for Persons with Disabilities. The Local Leaders, in turn, will be able to prioritize and mainstream disability needs in their planning and policy by involving PWDs in the roundtable discussions.

Secondly, the orientation of the National Policy on PWDs will increase the knowledge of the participants on the multi-sectoral nature of the disability. The policy advocacy will also have created awareness among concerned community leaders, pushing from the descending level rather than waiting for it to ascend. The training was financially and technically supported by: UNICEF Bhutan and UNDP Bhutan
