On 15th October 2022, in collaboration with Zhenphen Group one of the Community Based Organization, we observed international White Cane Safety Day at National Botanical Garden, Sarbethang, Thimphu.

More than 30 persons with blindness and low vision along with their families and caregivers have gathered at botanical garden. A white cane is an important mobility tool for persons with blindness as well as a symbol of their independence.

As we commemorate white cane day, it is the hope of the whole disability around the world. As the world grapples with the impact of COVID-19, we take this opportunity to remind law and policymakers and all stakeholders involved to ensure that designing or redesigning policymakers to no one must be left behind through our awareness program on cane day.

More than ten white canes have also been donated by well-wishers and a few more generous people to the persons with blindness who present there. Additionally, DPO educated individual persons with disabilities on how to use a white cane and offered assistance to their caretakers and others on how to properly guide them.
